Fashion Story three

It's been the mother of all weeks thus far so the expression here seems appropriate! Was nice to finally get this one finished as it's been languishing in the remains of a sketchbook for the past three weeks. It's based on prints.

Waaaane and Cheese

Some snippets from something I've been working on recently. Wine and Cheese parties automatically make me think of this....or this

Character Sheets

I'm pretty busy at the minute doing things for other people, but figured I'd post a few bits from an ongoing project I'm trying to fit in between commissions.

Back when I was doing my MA a lot of my focus was on children's book illustration, I even went as far as to write one. Then the editorial stuff crept in and it fell by the wayside. While I don't think my style would translate well to picture books I really enjoy doing the kind of character based black and white illustrations aimed towards the older/middle grade reader.

These are taken from a number of character sheets I'm working on in an attempt to boost this area of my portfolio. To give them some context they are loosely based on a reworking of Hansel and Gretel....based in a botanical garden.

The Roaring Twenties

I'm working on a commission based around the 20's and the Art Deco period at the moment. These are just a few preliminary sketches. I love everything about the 1920's, the architecture, the fashion.....the banana dance. This job has come along at an appropriate time seeing as the trailer for the depressingly flashy looking 3D (!?) film adaptation of the Great Gatsby was just released, nothing screams Fitzgerald like a bit of Kanye West.
